Marie never expected to wake up in North Pole City, let alone being made Santa’s Emergency Replacement. It was a job she never wanted but couldn’t turn down, thanks to Clarence, Santa’s right hand man.

Now, Marie has to work with Clarence, who believes she is some kind of criminal who will cause the destruction of everything he holds dear. Trying to prove that he’s wrong, Marie keeps making mistakes that push them even further apart. It doesn’t help that she has a past she’d rather keep hidden. However, trying to keep her past where it should belong isn’t easy.

Just when Marie starts to feel like things are coming together, a madman with a bone to pick, and Christmas to ruin, threatens the whole of the North Pole Organization. Marie must rely on Clarence and her new friends to help her face her past before Christmas is gone forever.  But does she have the courage to truly be herself when it could mean losing everything?

Top Ten List:

1 - I own a ginger tabby named Kally. She's seven years old.
2 - I currently have nine published books, with three more in the works.
3 - I may have been born in Utah but I claim Texas as my home.
4 - My favorite Disney character is Stitch, from Lilo and Stitch. Baymax is a close second/occasional tie.
5 - My favorite movie is Big Hero Six.
6 - The one book I can go back and read over and over again like it was the first time is Pride and Prejudice.
7 - My favorite ice cream flavor is anything cheesecake, though Blue Bell's Decadent Fudge Brown is starting to edge in on the title.
8 - I am turning my YA trilogy into an audio drama.
9 - I originally wrote The Unknown Elf  while in middle school, but edited it and expanded it into its current form a little over half a decade ago.
10 - My first published work was a poem in an anthology.

Snippet:

“When are you going to tell her?”
Tyler opened his eyes at Courtney's question. “Tell her what, exactly?”
Courtney didn't meet his eyes as she rummaged in her pack for something to munch on. “About what you are.” She pulled out a packet of granola and opened it.
Tyler's eyes went amber for a brief moment, but returned to their usual blue. “I don't know. One thing at a time, I guess. She's already been through a lot. I don't want to overwhelm her.”
“A bit late for that, don't you think,” Courtney understated with a roll of her eyes. “She's been attacked, knocked out, drowned, and who knows what else. I’m sure hearing you're a dragon will hardly make a dent in the bucket, if you know what I mean.”
Tyler smiled at that. “True. But what if I’m not ready to tell her?”

Synopsis:

The Revenants are coming. Only recently woken from their centuries' long slumber, the dragons are unprepared to face them. But when a legend is uncovered, revealing the existence of a lost tribe of mages, hope flickers to life. The race is on as Tyler Durand and Anwen Kaida rush to find this missing tribe while the others prepare for their last stand. But time and numbers are against them, and Anwen fears that even if they find the lost mages, it will be too late.

First, let's take a look inside the book with this
Excerpt:

Anwen felt her heart palpitate painfully. It squeezed the breath from her lungs as fire coursed through her veins. She gasped out loud as pain similar to her soul scars flared with white-hot agony. But instead of centering on her limbs, the pain hit her side and chest. “No,” she exclaimed as she doubled over, realizing what it meant. “Tyler!” she screamed. The crystal sword fell from her hand, leaving her unarmed.
An image came to her mind as she lay on the ground, her whole body trembling. She could see Tyler wreathing on the ground like an agitated snake. Dark steam issued from a gaping wound across his side and middle. The wound frothed like an angry tide.

Snippet:

"Why don't you just make her your Emergency Replacement instead of Sandra's assistant?" Clarence blurted. His words tumbled out before he could even think about the implications. "You've always wanted to have someone just in case of an emergency." His eyes sparkled with vexation, knowing he was being impertinent but not caring. He was sure Santa would never consider his suggestion with any seriousness.

Santa smoothed his beard. He measured the risks and the information his wizened eyes gave him. He included the intentions of his Head of Operations. He rubbed his chin, looked to one side, and nodded. "That's not a bad idea. It's nice to have someone. Just in case." He strode back to the desk and picked up a quill. "It does sound reasonable. All right, why don't we do just that? It will give her full access to all Leagues and privileges due to someone up that high. She'll pretty much be equal with you, Clarence." He gave his elf a knowing glance, eyes twinkling as he wrote down Marie's name and new position. The elf had played right into his hands, not that it had been all that hard to persuade him. They had both known the position was necessary and had discussed it at great lengths recently.

Clarence stared back, jaw somewhat agape. He'd only said it to vent his frustration, a mere joke; a joke that seemed to have been taken far too seriously. "But Santa! You can't think I was serious!"
